WORLD HISTORY ASSIGNMENTS
8/21-Intro to course; go over class components; review classroom rules; handout texts and readings; Review What is History; why take this class?
Handouts: Pompeii articles; chapter one vocab/q's
Homework: Read Pompeii handouts and prep for discussion;
8/22- Finish intro to course; If time, discuss why an understanding of world history is important today. Knowledge of other cultures is needed to prevent misunderstandings; Sharpen your skills at comprehension, interpretation, analyzation, and discussion; (Explain why)Discussion- What were your thoughts on the Pompeii articles. Video on Pompeii; Begin PPP on Pompeii;
8/23- look at timeline pp. 4-5; read pp. 6-10; work on vocab and questions 1.1 from handout ch1 and complete class activities 1A and 1B
8/26- collect and go over ch1 vocab and questions; finish PPP on Pompeii;
8/27- PPP on archeology; methods of archeology, dating methods, terms and def.
Homework: begin reading of article The Iceman; finish at home- take notes as a “detective”
8/28- work on detective activity in small groups; jot down your theories as to why the ice man was killed. Use evidence to support your theory.
Homework: compose your ideas about the death of the ice man into a newspaper article. Come up with a catchy headline and write the article. You have only space for 100 words so be precise. Read pp. 11-15 and complete questions and vocab (1.2)

9/3- Class discussion- Tell me what you know about ancient Egypt.
Homework: King Tut article (paragraph) and curse of the mummy (paragraph); Egyptian Map;
9/4-9/5- Go over PPP on Egypt; lecture on mummification; embalming; polytheism, monotheism; discuss the ruling class of Egypt; how it began, what pharaoh meant, what dynasty meant
Homework: read 20-25 (outline section); read 26-29 (paragraph)
9/6- Hieroglyphics Activity;
Homework: read pp. 30-34; vocab and q's (2.3)
9/9-9/10- PPP on Sumerians
9/11- MTSS Day
9/12- read 35-40 vocab and q's 2.4; handout on Hammurabi's Code; write paragraph: What would life be like without laws??(due Friday)
9/13- read handout on Assyrians and Persians (small group work)- compare and contrast the Assyrians and the Persians- write a few short paragraphs comparing and contrasting (provide handout to help)
Homework: read 41-43 (vocab and q's 2.5)
9/16- discussion on Phoenicians and Lydians; Read 44-47(vocab and q's 2.6)
9/17- Computer lab activity- outline section and write a short paragraph on the contributions of the Hebrews- Discuss how our lives are influenced today by this group.
9/18- Review for Test: ch1/2; online review game
9/19- Test chapter 1 and 2
9/20- 9/27 India Project (9/20, 9/23, 9/24- lab time for project; present 9/25-9/26)
Day 29- Intro to China; provide chapter wksheets
9/30- 10/10 China
10/11- Writing Activity- spend two minutes writing down whatever you can remember about Greek myths; talk about myths in class;
10/15- Myth Activity (pairs)- create your own modernized myth (based on a greek myth)
Read 106-109; chapter vocab and Q's
10/16-10/17- Lecture on the geography of Greece- ask how the geography might affect Greek civilization- mountains, harbors, weather, Lecture on Knossos and Troy; Discuss the term democracy, relate it to where it came from. discuss the evolution of democracy in Athens
Hmwk: read 110-112; read 113-117; vocab and questions (collect on Thursday)
10/18- videos on Sparta; Lecture on Sparta; Discussion of the values of the Spartans;
Homework: where would you rather live- Athens or Sparta and why??
